Ferry Review to Get Underway
A ROOT and branch review of Scotland’s many ferry services is to get under way later this summer.
The Scottish Government today (Friday) confirmed details of the review which they say will lead to an enhancement of services across all Scottish routes.

28/08/08 PENTLAND FERRIES:
As of the 8th of September 2008 the last sailing of the day from Gills Bay and St Margarets Hope will be leaving one hour earlier.
New Times will be as follows:
1700 dep St Margarets Hope
1845 dep Gills Bay
 
27/08/08 ORKNEY FERRIES:
To enable Varagen to undergo essential repairs, sailings for the Outer North Isles will operate to an amended timetable between Sunday 21 September - Thursday 25 September 2008 inclusive. This timetable can be viewed on the special timetables link on the operators Operational News section on there site or you can follow the link below.

25/08/08 PENTLAND FERRIES:
Due to the funeral of a crew member there will be several changes to sailings today:
The 0800 from St Margaret’s Hope will now depart at 0730 – any passengers need to be at the ferry terminal for 0700.
The 0945 from Gill’s Bay will now depart at 0915 – any passengers need to be at the ferry terminal at 0845.
The 1200 from St Margaret’s Hope and the 1345 from Gill’s Bay have been cancelled, any passengers who were booked on this sailing need to contact the operator on 01856831226.
The 1800 from St Margaret’s Hope and 1945 from Gill’s Bay will be running as normal.
 
24/08/08 PENTLAND FERRIES:
The Pentalina is still on route to Aden the weather has been against her and she has had to make a short detour to Salalah in Oman.
 
22/08/08 PENTLAND FERRIES:
Ferry Publications...
The delivery voyage of the new Pentalina from the Philippines has been delayed at Salalah in Oman awaiting Caterpillar Engineers flying out from UK to repair a generator which gave problems on the passage from Colombo (Sri Lanka). It is now unlikely that the vessel will be in service before October.

NorthLink Ferries will reintroduce its popular Islander Family & Friends discounted travel scheme next month after rising demand. The web promotion continues to offer lower cost travel to the Northern Isles for nominated non-islanders over the autumn months.

The Pentalina left Sri Lanka this morning and is now headed for Aden in The Yemen, she is expected to take seven days to get there subject to good weather.

NorthLink Ferries has been showcasing its new state-of-the-art livestock containers at the Turriff Show, with First Minister Alex Salmond, rural affairs and environment minister Richard Lockhead and transport minister Stewart Stevenson all seeing the new double-deck containers first hand.
Backed by Scottish Government funding, the lifeline ferry operator between the Scottish mainland and the Northern Isles has invested more than £3 million in the new containers, which aim to improve standards of livestock shipment, animal welfare and bio-security.
